Job Opportunity working for Corfu Butterfly Conservation

03/05/2024 Chris Little

All that Corfu Butterfly Conservation has achieved to date has been through the good will of volunteers. However, there is a limit to how much we can rely upon individuals to give up their free time willingly.

So we are delighted to announce that we are recruiting for the salaried position of Educational Outreach Officer, to help protect Corfu’s beautiful butterflies.

Corfu Butterfly Conservation (CBC) and Capodistrias Museum (CM) have received funding from the Ionian Environment Foundation (IEF) to employ an Educational Outreach Officer to help Corfu schools and other communities understand and protect the butterflies that represent the natural beauty of our island.

Butterflies are an easily visible indicator of the health of our environment here on Corfu. The natural environment of Corfu is under pressure in many ways. European studies suggest 75% biodiversity loss in just 30 years. There is a danger that we will lose the very essence of the island without even noticing.

We recognize the importance of working with children to develop passionate and lifelong interests. CBC and CM have been working with Corfu’s children and schoolteachers providing 8,000 dual language butterfly posters, one for every child, in each of the island’s 54 primary schools and a number of educational programmes for schools and families. The posters were designed to aid with the identification of the 76 known local butterfly species.

Now CBC and CM have been funded to employ an Educational Outreach Officer to continue this important work. If young people learn to recognise and value their natural surroundings, they will be inspired to protect Corfu for generations to come. The Education Officer will empower students, their families and other stakeholders with the tools needed to become the next generation of environmental stewards.

CBC and CM are seeking applicants for this new role who are passionate about making a lasting contribution to protecting Corfu’s butterflies and natural environment.

Applicants for the role are invited to download a job pack with full details of the role and application procedure.
